I realize (after having two very active boys) that I really need to update my first aid kit. So, this is a question for all you moms, grandmothers, and medical professionals. ... What should I have in my first aid kit??
I guess I never was prepared when my kids were little. I always had bandages on hand as well burn cream and antibiotic cream. But was never organized enough at that point to put a kit together. Here is a link to a website that will help in preparing the kit. You are so good about thinking ahead. http://kidshealth.org/parent/firstaid_safe/home/firstaid_kit.html
I am certainly no authority, but I would suggest Neosporin, bandaids of all sizes, hydrogen peroxide, Q-tips, thermometer, ice packs, heating pad, if you could get it the prescription medicine for burns. (I can't remember the name of the stuff. Ace bandage, vaseline. and last, but most important is MOTHER LOVE!!!!!!!!!
For a first aid kit, those "crushable" heat packs and cold packs would be good. For long term sprains, etc. an electric heating pad is good (it also helps for Mom and Dad's backs).
RE: antibiotic cream, some people have allergic reactions (rashes, slow healing) to neomycin, which is an active ingredient of Neosporin. Have a couple of different types, one neomycin based and one other, maybe bacitracin.
Bandaids of all sizes and colors. Plus, gauze and tape with some blunt nosed scissors; pointy scissors are scary when they come close to your body.
A plastic bottle of saline solution to rinse the eyes quickly. You might not be near a water fountain when JW throws sand in BB's face.
